Watercolor Artist Magazine
It feels like Christmas in April...I just received my copy of Watercolor Artist (June 2011). I am so excited to see my article in print! The title of my feature is "Little Pieces of Color". In the article I share the technique of watercolor stained paper collage. I begin with the staining of the Japanese papers, drawing of design, collage, and finish with painting. I have five additional paintings included in the article. The color reproduction is great.
Happy Painting!
Brenda

I just bought the magazine the other day and was excited to see your article as I was paging through it - I recognized your style from your blog and, since I have been reading your blog for a couple of weeks, felt like I was seeing a friend's publication... Thought I should let you know how much I enjoy your postings too. Thanks for sharing and Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteSydney, What a sweet comment. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI did get the magazine and started reading your article.
ReplyDeleteHow fascinating that you are trying the "paper painting" technique in watercolor. I have been using Elizabeth St. Hilaire Nelson's paper painting In acrylic for about a year but had not really thought o trying something similar with watercolor! But why not!!! I wish one of the art catalogs would put out a packet of a variety of rice papers. They are not cheap. In acrylics I sometimes use coffee filters as one of the choices. And Elizabeth, of course, uses sheet music and newspaper that are tinted too. So much fun.
Daniel Smith has a sample packet of papers...and on sale! www.danielsmith.com In the search box enter "Japanese Paper Sampler".
ReplyDeleteHave fun!
Brenda, I picked up Watercolor magazine and enjoyed your work- full of joy and color! i am so happy to have found your blog. Love your work!
ReplyDeleteA big congratulations, Brenda! I just got my issue and hadn't had a chance to browse through it yet, so now that I've seen this, I tore right into it--looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThanks to everyone for the delightful response! It's heart warming to know the article inspired and delighted you.
ReplyDeleteI work in many different ways with varied tools. I enjoy the immediate results of sketching with ink and watercolor, transparent watercolor, and painting on tinted paper. Watercolor is so varied...the joy never ends!
Happy Painting!
I loved the article and would like to congratulate you on using collage and painting in such a harmonious way!
