Great news...my long awaited DVD is here. The response has been wonderful and I am more than excited to have this new teaching tool.
Here is the description of the DVD: Sketching Techniques with Watercolors DVD with Brenda Swenson. "There
is a very playful element to sketching," Brenda
Swenson says in the introduction to her latest DVD entitled Sketching
Techniques With Watercolor. "When I start a large painting I tend to get
serious…so sketching with watercolor to me is a lot lighter and
fun filled".
Sketching Techniques With Watercolor is comprised of nine chapters beginning with sketching tools and techniques and continuing through to sketching and painting a vignette, a flower bouquet and a church landscape. Learn how a sketch can be complete in itself, or a road map to larger studio paintings. Whether you want to improve your skills, create travel journals or take that next step as an artist, you will come away excited and inspired. This 126 minute DVD is loads of fun for a beginning artists, as well as, a great refresher course for the intermediate painter.
Brenda Swenson, a popular instructor and author, has compiled many sketchbooks that she continues to use as reference material. "I discovered early on in life, that I didn’t really see something until I drew it. The more I sketched and painted, the more I became aware of the world around me. I found that even the simple things in life took on a new importance and beauty."
If you like a copy it is available at Cheap Joe's Art Stuff.

DeleteGreat dvd! I'm curious where you got the thumb ring for the sealable travel palette that's stuck to the bottom. I have that same palette and lament not having one!
ReplyDeleteMichelle, I just used a rubber washer and attached it with industrial tape. Works great, too!
DeleteIngenious! Thanks so much! Going out to find a washer right now! I blog, I teach and I have been sketching for quite a few years now. I always enjoy someone elses take on the sketchbook. I'm fairly sure, but want to check, might I reference you and your DVD in my blog?
DeleteSharing some of your ideas will enhance my post on my latest sketchbook posts! thanks so much!
Hi Michelle, nice to hear my blog has been of help and encouragement. You are more than welcome to share a link to my blog and talk about my DVD. I appreciate you asking.

Hi Brenda, I've tried to order your DVD for a couple of weeks now, and it's still "Out of Stock". Do you have any idea when it will be available again? Can it be purchased somewhere else?
ReplyDeleteMany thanks,
Theresa
Hi Theresa, I was delighted that the DVD was so popular...but sorry they weren't able to get copies to everyone. I understand copies will be available September 21st. If you order a copy now they have stated that you will get the first copies and won't be billed until the DVD ships. Thanks for your support!
DeleteThank you for the info Brenda.

I am thoroughly enjoying the DVD. I hope that you will continue to share via media. the brushes you are using seem so springy and come to points so nicely. Can you share what brushes you were using for the DVD? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteNice to hear you like the DVD! The round brush you see in the DVD is a great brush and not expensive either. They're called a Loew-Cornell Ultra Round. Here is a link where you can find them.

Would you mind leaving a review of my DVD on Cheap Joe's Art Stuff website?
Happy painting!
I am so glad to have your DVD now! You are to far away for me to join a workshop, so I really enjoy watching the DVD and take a look over your shoulder in this way. I tried using a sponge (not to overload my brush) while colouring my sketch and this tip is really great. Thank you for sharing your knowledge! Best wishes and greetings from Germany, Alexandra
ReplyDeleteAlexandra...thank you! I am always delighted to hear my teaching or techniques has been helpful. Happy Sketching!
DeleteLooking forward to getting one by Christmas! Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Barbara! Let me know how you like it.

Brenda, I've watched your DVD three times now and raring to go out and paint. I've painted in oils plien air and recently switched to watercolor primarily to reduce the amount/weight of stuff I have to lug into the field with me. Do you paint out doors with an easle or do you paint sitting down. I can't get my head around painting standing up and painting without an easle. What do you do?

Hi Gail, First of all thank you for purchasing my DVD and welcome to watercolor!
DeleteRarely do I use a easel.. to much of a hassle and not necessary. I do sketch standing up if I am using a small sketchbook and small sketch palette and a waterbrush. But I usually sketch sitting. I have a very lightweight portable chair called a "Roll-a-Chair".
I hope this helps answer your question.
Happy Sketching!
Brenda
Hi Brenda, I have one of your books and have followed your blog and Facebook posts for several years. I thought it would be wonderful to have this DVD for a Christmas present. How disappointed I am to find that Cheap Joes is the only stockist I can find and the postage to Australia is as much as the DVD. All up it will cost me US$63 and Cheap Joes won't offer any cheaper postage options. I'd soooo love a copy but I can't justify this expense and will have to cancel the order. If you have any other suppliers, I'd really love to hear the details.
ReplyDeleteMichelle, Please contact me by email and lets see if we can resolve this.
